WHAT IS THE AUSTRALIAN COBBERDOG?
An Australian Cobberdog is a relatively new purebreed still in the developing stages.

WHAT BREEDS MAKE UP THE AUSTRALIAN COBBERDOG?
There were many breeds involved in the early stages of development. Now the Australian Cobberdog doesn’t really resemble any of those breeds. We are many generations along now and it has it’s own unique identity and well defined characteristics that lend themselves to therapy and service including;

- sustained eye contact
- emotional warmth
- high intuition (reading human emotional states well)
- intelligence
- high aptitude for training
- a calm soothing nature

IS IT A LABRADOODLE? - IS IT A FANCY LABRADOODLE?
No, whilst they can look a bit similar, their genetic profile is different. In the Australian Cobberdog’s very early development there was shared heritage with the Australian Labradoodle. However, the development of the ACD is further along now and the Australian Cobberdog has it’s own unique genetic blueprint and traits. Whilst the Australian Labradoodle is a cross breed the Australian Cobberdog is a purebreed in the developing stages.” - I don’t volunteer this information unless someone pushes me. There is always the odd person who does. I answer all questions respectfully and talk people’s ears off about the Australian Cobberdog. When they meet and interact with an ACD the penny drops and they can see and experience the work we are doing.

IT LOOKS LIKE A LABRADOODLE?
All non shedding dogs do tend to look a bit similar.

WHAT IS A BREED IN DEVELOPMENT?
Most current well known dog breeds have only been accepted as purebreeds in the past couple of hundred years. They had to go through a “purebreed in development” stage too and all well known breeds were a combination of other breeds. A purebreed in the developing stage means breeders are working towards predictability within the breed, in temperament and appearance. There is the purebreed registry, the MDBA, overseeing the development of the breed and a single breed standard we are all working towards. There are goals we need to reach before the breed will be determined to be a developed purebreed. A couple of new breeds are recognised worldwide each year.

Australian Cobberdogs really do now have their own unique identity. Owners can tell you this. Be proud and promote this wonderful developing breed. Please send me any other questions you may have.
